The clients organised their own cabinet maker and I have to say that they did a very good job. I think the colours that were selected also work very well together. I tiled the splash back and helped select the tiles.

The Reengineering Of The Deck
The clients wanted to reuse as much of the old deck as possible so we used the existing joists and decking. Bearers, pole plate and posts were replaced to specs. It was tricky work threading nine metre long steel posts through the deck. The only way this could be done was through mechanical means. The council was also involved with sewer modifications and inspections to approve the renovations of the pre existing deck.
All in a days work
The one thing with building is that your day finishes when the task is completed. Sometimes it is not worth while doing a few hours the following day. You always need to ensure that there is integrity in the structure and you need to ensure that the site is safe before you go home. This is just common sense but it is also legislative now. So here we are a twelve hour day.
The Deck After Completion
Stacker doors were installed and the decking was sanded and stained with a decking oil. A ceiling fan and lights were also installed. The deck can easily accommodate thirty people.
Before And After
Job prerequisites were to remove the old deck as it was a potential liability. Design and build a functional and aesthetic structure. Clean access around the side of the house and a fence with gates for security.
Demolition
We had a lot of concrete to cut and break up with jackhammers. This could only be done effectively by machine. There was about 20 cubic metres of concrete to remove, aged and reinforced.
Boxing, Levelling And Compacting
We encountered reactive soil of a type that I had never come across before. See the video below.
The solution was to dig it out and fill up the hole with crusher dust, about 8 cubic metres altogether.
Harmonising The Structures With Surroundings
We decided to colour the concrete a charcoal colour to highlight the plant and timber colours.
Task
I had to fully strip out the existing bathroom due to water damage and taps not sealing shut anymore. The requirements for the bathroom were that it needed a bath tub, a shower screen a large vanity mirror cabinet and also a place to put away cleaning solutions.
The Process
The old shower tray was holding moisture and allowing water to penetrate into the fibre sheet. As you can see this it really needed replacing. Once the room was decontaminated the plumbing was updated with new copper pipes,wastes etc. The framing was done for the features and services. Electrical was also done before sheeting.
Tip. When sheeting always mark on the sheet where the services are so that you dont put a nail into them by accident.
